During the Spring of 1991, a committee, chaired by Richard Sparks,
began working toward the formation of a statewide adult
education association for Idaho. This committee was formed
following a unanimous vote of 28 Idahoans attending a conference
of the Mountain Plains Adult Education Association (MPAEA)
in Sun Valley in May. (The motion was made by Dr. Jack Kaufman
of Boise and seconded by Dr. Jerry Beck of Twin Falls.)
In February, 1992, after mailings to all MPAEA Idaho members
and all Idaho Adult Education Association members, a vote
on a proposed Constitution showed 40 "yes" and one "no" vote,
and 25 votes for the name, Idaho Lifelong Learning Association.
After nominations by mail, the first board of directors
were elected consisting of Marjorie Slotten, president;
Richard Sparks, president-elect; Tom Richards, Boise, Community
Education; Ron Shopbell, Twin Falls, Continuing Education;
Cleve Taylor, Boise, Higher Education; Judy Reber, Boise,
Adult Literacy, Treasurer; Pat Anson, Boise, newsletter
editor.
